Urban Hope Indy (UHI) exists to change the course of lives for Indianapolis’ urban youth through trust, relationship and mentoring. Volunteer mentors spend time with at-risk children throughout the week to share important life principles that provide clear vision, instill hope and reveal opportunity. UHI utilizes the “I CAN” curriculum as developed by The Zig Ziglar Corporation. Encouraging lessons are taught in weekly, interactive youth meetings that offer proven and inspiring principles to help each child reach their maximum potential and exceed their life dreams. Key concepts include: sustaining a positive attitude, maintaining a healthy self image, the importance of relationships, the importance of setting personal life goals and the path to reaching them.
Mentors at UHI also share the time-treasured values and attributes that reveal the enormous benefit of treating your neighbor as you would want to be treated. The organization is faith based and shares key elements of the “The Purpose Driven Life.” You are not an accident! Your life has enormous purpose! UHI also teaches at-risk youth the “The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People” which entails both personal and team-oriented practices. Can the vicious cycle of children growing up in poverty, never realizing their potential, ever be broken? We have no doubt that it can. One young life at a time.

NEST Youth Center
Urban Hope Indy partners with NEST! The “Near East Side Troopers” Youth Center was founded in the early 1980’s by Janet Hair of JL Hair Realty. It is a faith based youth center located at 4306 E New York Street on the city’s East side. This area has problems commonly associated with urban neighborhoods in major metropolitan areas such as homelessness, hunger, juvenile delinquency and high crime activity.
Mrs. Hair founded the center to show the love of God to the youth in this area while providing them a safe environment to play, learn and grow. Many of these children would not have a warm meal after school if not for the youth center.
The center provides games and activities, recreational sports and youth mentors interested in helping each child develop personal life goals while showing them a path for how they may be attained. NEST youth meetings often host special guests from around the city. Please Contact Us if you are interested in speaking to the youth or know of someone who is! The youth center’s needs are many: funds needed for food and upkeep of the facility, games, recreational equipment (basketballs, soccer balls), etc. The NEST Youth Center is open Monday through Friday, 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are always looking for help!

Connecting Needs to Resources
Indianapolis is blessed to have many useful support service organizations throughout the city that assist with helping those in need to acquire food, shelter, addiction recovery and other appropriate services. Part of Urban Hope’s mission is to connect those in need with these valuable resources. To that end, Urban Hope Indy utilizes and endorses “Call 2-1-1.” For more information – Click Here
Safe and Affordable Housing
Several Urban Hope leaders have an extensive background in real estate sales and property management. Urban Hope’s future plans include acquiring distressed properties that can be rehabilitated for affordable housing in underserved parts of the city. Our objective is to utilize cash flow from the properties to fund Urban Hope’s mission. This particular initiative actually accomplishes more than one objective. It plays a role in remedying the problem of abandoned properties and urban blight that attracts crime to underserved parts of Indianapolis. It also provides affordable housing to those in need and beautifies neighborhoods in these areas. Urban Hope will also be sponsoring neighborhood meetings aimed at teaching nearby residents how they may experience the American Dream of home ownership. Please Contact Us if you are interested in donating property, funds or services to assist with this important initiative.
